About the Gun

The Croatian made XD pistol represents Springfield Armory's entry into the polymer-frame striker-fired pistol market. Although Springfield Armory introduced the XD in 2002, an earlier incarnation of the design known as the HS2000 had been independently imported into the US three years before. The XD model introduced many manufacturing improvements that have given the pistol a reputation for reliability and accuracy. While often compared to the GLock, the XD has a distinctly different trigger action that includes a unique 1911-style grip safety, and both a cocked status indicator and a loaded chamber indicator.

Analysis

This 9mm service model pistol offers a solid option for both novice and experienced shooters seeking a reliable duty or personal defense firearm. Its accuracy is commendable, with consistent performance at typical engagement distances, aided by a well-designed grip that enhances control and comfort during extended use. Reliability is a key asset, as it functions dependably across various conditions with minimal malfunctions when properly maintained. The trigger pull is crisp, averaging around 6-7 pounds, providing a predictable break that suits defensive scenarios. Felt recoil is moderate, manageable for most users, though follow-up shots may require slight adjustment for newer shooters. On the downside, maintenance can be somewhat intricate, requiring attention to detail for thorough cleaning. Additionally, sourcing replacement parts may pose challenges in certain regions, potentially delaying repairs. Overall, it’s a capable choice with minor drawbacks for specific user needs.
