About the Gun

The Croatian made XD pistol represents Springfield Armory's entry into the polymer-frame striker-fired pistol market. Although Springfield Armory introduced the XD in 2002, an earlier incarnation of the design known as the HS2000 had been independently imported into the US three years before. The XD model introduced many manufacturing improvements that have given the pistol a reputation for reliability and accuracy. While often compared to the GLock, the XD has a distinctly different trigger action that includes a unique 1911-style grip safety, and both a cocked status indicator and a loaded chamber indicator.

Production

Production of this firearm began in 2003, with the sub-compact variant introduced shortly after. Manufacturing continues today, with various configurations and finishes offered over the years, primarily produced at the company's facility in Croatia before importation to the United States.

Analysis

This 9mm sub-compact pistol offers a solid option for concealed carry and personal defense. Its accuracy is commendable for a firearm of this size, delivering consistent performance at close to moderate ranges. The ergonomic design, with a contoured grip, ensures a comfortable hold for most users, enhancing control during firing. Reliability is a strong point, as it functions well under various conditions with minimal malfunctions when properly maintained. However, maintenance can be somewhat cumbersome due to the compact frame, requiring more effort for disassembly and cleaning. Parts availability may also pose a challenge in certain regions, potentially delaying repairs. The trigger pull is crisp, averaging around 6 pounds, which suits many shooters but might feel heavy for some. Felt recoil is moderate, manageable for experienced users, though newer shooters may find it slightly sharp due to the lightweight design. Overall, it’s a practical choice with a few considerations.

The Essential Carry Gun
By XDboy on 03 Dec 2021
The XD line of handguns imported by Springfield are rock solid. You can feel the weight of the extra reinforced components, including the fullly supported chamber and double recoil spring and steel guide rod. These guns are like the energizer bunny, they take a lickin and keep on tickin. The grip safety is a welcome second chance incase you should reach out in the middle of the night and accidentally put your finger in the trigger guard. Steel sights are standard, loaded chamber & striker indicators. Extended guide rod keeps the weapon in battery when pressed point blank. All that for around 350 bucks. You simply can not afford to pass on this one.
