About the Gun

Also referred to as the Model 50, the Megastar is a large, all-steel, double-action(DA/SA), double-column semi-auto pistol whose platform design can support toolings for both the .45 ACP and 10mm Auto cartridges. The design uses internal slide rails, instead of more usual external rails. The safety lever has three positions: up for "fire" mode, where the red dot is shown; middle for "safe" mode, this withdraws and locks the firing pin; and down for safe decocking, after which the safety lever springs back to the "safe" position.

Production

Production of this firearm began in 1992 and continued until 2002. It was manufactured primarily in Spain, with a limited run of units produced during that decade before being discontinued due to declining demand.

Analysis

This 10mm semi-automatic pistol offers a compelling package for shooters seeking power and precision. Its accuracy is noteworthy, with tight groupings achievable at moderate ranges due to a well-balanced design and a crisp trigger pull averaging around 4.5 pounds, which aids in maintaining control during rapid fire. Ergonomically, the grip fits a wide range of hand sizes, providing a secure hold that enhances stability. Reliability is a strong point, as it cycles smoothly even with varied ammunition types under demanding conditions. However, felt recoil is significant, which may challenge less experienced users or those unaccustomed to the 10mm’s potent kick. Maintenance can be somewhat cumbersome, requiring diligent cleaning to prevent wear on internal components. Additionally, sourcing replacement parts can be difficult, potentially leading to delays in repairs. Overall, it’s a solid choice for seasoned shooters comfortable with its power and upkeep demands.

All 4 variations are worth considering to buy - if you can find them. They are eminently collectable as they are no longer made. Close to 6500 were ever produced between 1990 - 1995. I recently completed my collection with the 10mm Starvel being the final one.
