About the Gun

The M series pistol is a polymer frame design employing a Browning-style recoil action. It is striker-fired with a double-action only (DAO) trigger. M-A1 pistols feature a redesigned grip and frame shape from the original M series, and Picatinny rail (instead of the proprietary rail) under the barrel. Another change from original M series pistols is that M-A1 pistols are made in two variants, with or without manual safety. Also unique to the gun are its unusual 'trapezoid' sights, similar in principle to the Glock's square 'U' notch design.

Production

Production of this specific firearm began in 2004 and continued until it was discontinued in 2014. It was manufactured during this period as part of a notable line of polymer-framed handguns.

Analysis

This pistol in .357 SIG offers a compelling package for shooters seeking a balance of power and control. Its accuracy is noteworthy, delivering consistent groupings at moderate ranges, thanks to a well-designed barrel and sight system. Ergonomically, the grip angle and texture provide a secure hold, accommodating a variety of hand sizes with ease. Reliability is a strong point, as it functions smoothly under diverse conditions with minimal malfunctions when properly maintained. However, maintenance can be somewhat cumbersome due to a complex disassembly process, which may frustrate less experienced users. Additionally, sourcing replacement parts can be challenging, limiting long-term support. The trigger pull is crisp, averaging around 5.5 pounds, though some may find it slightly heavy for rapid follow-up shots. Felt recoil is manageable but sharp, given the potent caliber, requiring a firm grip for optimal control.
