About the Gun

The M series pistol is a polymer frame design employing a Browning-style recoil action. It is striker-fired with a double-action only (DAO) trigger. M-A1 pistols feature a redesigned grip and frame shape from the original M series, and Picatinny rail (instead of the proprietary rail) under the barrel. Another change from original M series pistols is that M-A1 pistols are made in two variants, with or without manual safety. Also unique to the gun are its unusual 'trapezoid' sights, similar in principle to the Glock's square 'U' notch design.

Production

Production of this model began in 2004 and continued until it was succeeded by updated designs. The specific variant in question was manufactured primarily during the mid-2000s, aligning with advancements in polymer-framed firearms of that era.

Analysis

This .40 S&W pistol offers a compelling package for shooters seeking a reliable duty or personal defense firearm. Its accuracy is commendable, delivering consistent groupings at moderate ranges, thanks to a well-designed barrel and sight system. The ergonomics are a strong point, with a grip that accommodates various hand sizes, promoting a secure hold under stress. Reliability is another asset, as it functions smoothly even after extended use in diverse conditions. However, maintenance can be somewhat cumbersome, requiring more effort than some competing models to disassemble and clean. Availability of replacement parts may also pose a challenge for some users, potentially leading to delays in repairs. The trigger pull is crisp, averaging around 5.5 pounds, which aids precision but might feel stiff for beginners. Felt recoil is manageable, though sharper than expected for the caliber, necessitating proper grip technique for optimal control.
