About the Gun

The Taurus DT Hybrid series semiauto pistols are built on a polymer-over-steel frame and chambered in 9mm or .40 SW. Features include a strike two-capable trigger; i.e., if the primer ever fails to ignite when firing in single-action mode, the gun reverts to double action mode to provide a potentially life-saving second or third try at a faulty cartridge. The pistol will then automatically revert back to single action mode. This pistol also features contoured ambidextrous thumb rests and finger indexing memory pads that offer added purchase. The ambidextrous magazine release makes this pistol work for left- or right-handed shooters, and the rear sight is fully adjustable. Offered with a blued or matte stainless finish, the pistol includes a manual safety, a visual loaded chamber indicator, a trigger safety and the key-based Taurus Security System.

Analysis

This .40 S&W hybrid pistol offers a compelling package for shooters seeking a versatile duty or personal defense firearm. Its accuracy is commendable, delivering consistent groupings at moderate ranges, thanks to a well-designed barrel and sight system. The ergonomics are a strong point, with a grip that accommodates various hand sizes, promoting a secure hold during extended sessions. Reliability is generally solid, cycling most ammunition without frequent malfunctions under standard conditions. However, maintenance can be somewhat cumbersome, as disassembly requires patience and familiarity with the design. Parts availability may also pose challenges, potentially delaying repairs for some users. The trigger pull is smooth but slightly heavy, which might affect precision for less experienced shooters. Felt recoil is manageable, though sharper than some competitors in this caliber, requiring proper grip technique to maintain control. Overall, it’s a practical choice with minor drawbacks to consider.
