About the Gun

The Taurus 709, also known as the Taurus Slim, is a single stack 9mm pistol designed for concealed carry. It is polymer framed, and is offered with a choice of slides: blued, stainless steel, or titanium. The blued and stainless models weigh only 19 ounces unloaded, and the titanium model weighs just 17 ounces. Although the gun is striker-fired the trigger has a double-action (DA/SA) operation, meaning once a round is chambered the trigger pull is a 'short, crisp' single-action pull. Should the gun fail to fire, the next trigger pull (second shot capability) is a longer double-action shot. The sights are a low profile, three-dot system and the trigger has a GLock-style safety. All three models have a 3.2 inch barrel and come with a 7-round, flush magazine and a 9-round extended magazine.

About the Cartridge

This cartridge was introduced along with the Luger semi-automatic pistol. The pistol and cartridge was first adopted by the German Navy in 1904 and then by the German Army in 1908. This cartridge has since been adopted by the military of practically every non-Communist power. It has become the most popular and widely-used handgun cartridge in the world. Performance wise, the 9 mm cartridge has somewhat more power than the .38 Special but falls well short of the .357 Magnum.

Not Reliable
By X-Raycer on 24 Aug 2020
I initially liked the concept of this budget "Shield" alternative. I've put over 500 rounds through this gun and have had problems at every shooting session. On follow up shots the trigger hangs and won't compress fully. I thought it was just me and my technique until last week and my son had the same experience several times. I won't carry this gun until I trade it.

I have been carrying this handgun for about a year now. I have only experienced one feed issue and that was due to the magazine. Excellent CCW option.
