About the Gun

The Taurus 740, also known as the Taurus Slim, is a single stack .40 S&W pistol designed for concealed carry. It is polymer framed, and is offered with a choice of blued or stainless steel slide. It weighs only 19 ounces unloaded. Although the gun is striker-fired the trigger has a double-action (DA/SA) operation, meaning once a round is chambered the trigger pull is a 'short, crisp' single-action pull. Should the gun fail to fire, the next trigger pull (second shot capability) is a longer double-action shot. The sights are a low profile, three-dot system and the trigger has a GLock-style safety.

Production

Production of this firearm began in 2010 and continued until around 2015. It was manufactured during this period, offering a compact design for concealed carry enthusiasts before being discontinued by the company.

Analysis

This compact .40 S&W pistol offers a solid option for concealed carry with several notable attributes. Its accuracy is commendable for a firearm of this size, delivering consistent performance at typical defensive ranges. The ergonomic design fits comfortably in most hands, with a slim profile that aids in concealment without sacrificing control. Reliability is generally strong, functioning well under varied conditions with proper care. However, maintenance can be somewhat challenging due to a design that requires attention to detail during disassembly and cleaning. Availability of replacement parts may also be an issue for some users, potentially leading to delays in repairs. The trigger pull is on the heavier side, which might not suit everyone, especially those accustomed to lighter mechanisms. Additionally, felt recoil is noticeable, a common trait in lightweight .40 caliber handguns, which could affect follow-up shots for less experienced shooters.
