About the Gun

The PT640 Pro is the factory-enhanced version of the standard PT640, sharing the identical polymer frame, bobbed hammer, and frame mounted safety/decocker. The primary upgrade is an upgraded sight system paired with a reshaped grip module that incorporates a pronounced left-side thumb rest molded directly into the polymer. These changes were marketed as carry-friendly improvements for faster sight acquisition and better one-handed control, giving the Pro a slightly more “custom” feel while retaining the same compact, rail-equipped footprint.

Production

This gun was produced from 2006 through 2013.

Analysis

The Pro’s Heinie Straight-8 sights and thumb-rest grip deliver noticeable improvements in speed and control over the base model, making follow-up shots quicker and one-handed manipulation more secure. Recoil management and practical accuracy remain strong for a sub-25 oz .40, with the same smooth DA/SA trigger characteristics. Unfortunately, it inherits the identical drop-safety flaw that affected every PT640 produced from 2006 through 2013, resulting in the same recall/settlement fate and eventual replacement by the striker-fired G2 platform.
