About the Gun

The Judge is a derivative of the Taurus Tracker. It comes in three barrel lengths, two cylinder lengths and two finishes. This 5-shot double-action (DA/SA) is chambered to fire both .45 Colt cartridges and .410 shot shells. However, the Judge does not qualify as a 'short-barreled shotgun' under the National Firearms Act of 1934 as its rifled barrel makes it a regular handgun. The Judge was originally marketed as the Model 44, but according to Taurus President, Bob Morrison, a number of judges expressed interest in carrying .410 loads into the courtroom and the name was changed.

Analysis

This revolver, chambered for both .45 Colt and .410 bore shotshells, offers a unique versatility for users seeking a hybrid firearm for close-range defense or small game hunting. Its accuracy is commendable within short distances, particularly with .45 Colt rounds, though it diminishes with shotshells due to spread. The ergonomic grip design provides a secure hold, aiding control during firing. Reliability is generally solid, with consistent performance under varied conditions, though regular cleaning is essential to prevent residue buildup from shotshells. On the downside, maintenance can be cumbersome, and sourcing specific replacement parts may pose challenges. The trigger pull is notably heavy in double-action mode, which could affect precision for some shooters. Felt recoil is manageable with .45 Colt but can be sharp with .410 loads, potentially unsettling less experienced users. Overall, it’s a specialized tool with distinct advantages and limitations.

This is the best of both worlds. This 3" chamber allows for 21/2 or 3" 410 shell. and the extra weight aids in getting back on target. I love this revolver!!
