About the Gun

This is a reproduction of the first 'ejectorless' or what is now known as the Sheriff's Model introduced in 1882. The vast majority of the Sheriff's Model (also called the Storekeeper’s Model) sixguns were made with 3.5 or 4 inch barrels. The short barrel was designed to speed up the draw, and to make the gun a bit easier to carry, or to conceal. However, some Sheriff's Models were even manufactured with 7.5 inch barrels.

Production

Production of this particular firearm occurred between 1896 and 1916 in the United States. It was crafted during a period when such designs were popular among law enforcement and civilians seeking compact, reliable options for personal defense.

Analysis

This classic revolver in .32-20 caliber offers a blend of historical charm and practical performance. Its accuracy is commendable for a design of its era, providing consistent shot placement at moderate ranges when properly maintained. The ergonomics are well-suited for shooters with smaller hands, thanks to a grip design that facilitates a natural hold, though larger-handed users might find it less comfortable. Reliability is a strong point, with a robust mechanism that functions smoothly under regular use. However, maintenance can be a challenge, as sourcing replacement parts for such an older design often proves difficult, potentially limiting long-term usability. The trigger pull is crisp and predictable, averaging around 4-5 pounds in single action, which aids precision. Felt recoil is mild due to the relatively light cartridge, making it manageable for extended shooting sessions, though it may lack the power some modern shooters desire.
