About the Gun

This is a reproduction of the first 'ejectorless' or what is now known as the Sheriff's Model introduced in 1882. The vast majority of the Sheriff's Model (also called the Storekeeper’s Model) sixguns were made with 3.5 or 4 inch barrels. The short barrel was designed to speed up the draw, and to make the gun a bit easier to carry, or to conceal. However, some Sheriff's Models were even manufactured with 7.5 inch barrels.

Production

Production of this particular firearm occurred between 2004 and 2012.

Analysis

This classic revolver in .38-40 Win caliber offers a blend of historical design and practical functionality that appeals to enthusiasts of traditional firearms. Its accuracy is commendable for a revolver of its era, delivering consistent performance at moderate ranges when paired with proper ammunition. The ergonomics are well-suited for users familiar with single-action designs, with a grip that aligns naturally for most hand sizes. Reliability is a strong point, as the mechanism operates smoothly under regular use with minimal malfunctions. However, maintenance can be cumbersome due to the intricacies of older designs, and sourcing replacement parts may pose challenges for owners. The trigger pull is crisp, with a predictable break, though it requires deliberate effort. Felt recoil is moderate, manageable for experienced shooters but potentially sharp for novices unaccustomed to the cartridge’s characteristics. Overall, it remains a solid choice for collectors and casual shooters alike.
