About the Gun

One of the first successful polymer framed designs, Glock handguns are common sidearms among law enforcement agencies and military organizations around the world. Although a striker-fired pistol, the Glock employs a single-action (SA) trigger, meaning that the trigger does not cock the gun, but only releases the striker when pulled. Cocking of the striker is performed by the retracting slide. Glock pistols have no manual safeties. The trigger is the only operating element. All three internal pistol safeties are deactivated when the unique single-action trigger is pulled, and automatically activated when it is released. For more information on the Glock design, please refer to the Glock pistol animation in the Basics section.

Analysis

This 10mm caliber pistol offers a compelling option for shooters seeking a powerful semi-auto handgun. Its accuracy is noteworthy, delivering consistent performance at moderate ranges, making it suitable for both defensive and hunting applications. The ergonomics are well-designed, with a grip that accommodates a variety of hand sizes, enhancing control during firing. Reliability is a strong point, as it functions dependably under diverse conditions with proper care. However, maintenance can be somewhat demanding, requiring regular attention to ensure optimal performance. Parts availability may pose challenges for some users, particularly in less common regions. The trigger pull is crisp, averaging around 5.5 pounds, which provides a good balance for most shooters. Felt recoil is significant due to the potent cartridge, potentially affecting newer users or those unaccustomed to higher-powered rounds, though experienced shooters will likely adapt with practice.

Glock is Glock, 10mm is 10mm

Like all Glocks, this model G20 takes care of business for its application. Be aware that it is full size, and is not a great candidate for concealed carry; but can be carried OWB or in a chest rig with minimal discomfort. Recoil is the factor here: target acquisition for repeat shots requires practice. It is not a pistol for those new to shooting. Best application is hunting. The 10mm is recognized in Alaska as a viable bear gun; one reason is ammo capacity, besides the power factor. And with a quality extended barrel, and proper sights, can be effective on most but largest game out to distance. Home defense is also an option. But again, repeat shots could be a problem. Additionally, there have been considerations in court proceedings as to the need for such a powerful weapon in the home. I've owned a couple of these, and now have the G20sf. I really enjoy the experience of shooting a large, powerful handgun that is a bit more comfortable all around than dealing with the 44 Magnum rev.
