About the Gun

One of the first successful polymer framed designs, Glock handguns are common sidearms among law enforcement agencies and military organizations around the world. Although a striker-fired pistol, the Glock employs a single-action (SA) trigger, meaning that the trigger does not cock the gun, but only releases the striker when pulled. Cocking of the striker is performed by the retracting slide. Glock pistols have no manual safeties. The trigger is the only operating element. All three internal pistol safeties are deactivated when the unique single-action trigger is pulled, and automatically activated when it is released. For more information on the Glock design, please refer to the Glock pistol animation in the Basics section.

Analysis

This .40 S&W semi-automatic pistol is a well-regarded option for both duty and personal defense. Its accuracy is commendable, delivering consistent performance at typical engagement distances, thanks to a well-engineered barrel and sight system. Ergonomically, the grip design accommodates a wide range of hand sizes, offering a secure hold during extended use. Reliability is a key asset, with the firearm functioning dependably across various conditions and ammunition types. However, maintenance can be somewhat demanding, requiring regular attention to ensure optimal performance. Parts availability may pose challenges in certain regions, potentially delaying repairs. The trigger pull, averaging around 5.5 pounds, provides a predictable break, though some users might find it slightly heavy for rapid follow-up shots. Felt recoil is noticeable due to the potent caliber, which could affect newer shooters but is manageable with proper technique.
