About the Gun

One of the first successful polymer framed designs, Glock handguns are common sidearms among law enforcement agencies and military organizations around the world. Although a striker-fired pistol, the Glock employs a single-action (SA) trigger, meaning that the trigger does not cock the gun, but only releases the striker when pulled. Cocking of the striker is performed by the retracting slide. Glock pistols have no manual safeties. The trigger is the only operating element. All three internal pistol safeties are deactivated when the unique single-action trigger is pulled, and automatically activated when it is released. For more information on the Glock design, please refer to the Glock pistol animation in the Basics section.

Analysis

This .40 S&W compact pistol offers a solid balance of performance and practicality for both concealed carry and duty use. Its accuracy is commendable, delivering consistent groupings at typical engagement distances, while the ergonomic grip design accommodates a variety of hand sizes, enhancing control during rapid fire. Reliability is a key asset, with a proven track record of functioning under diverse conditions with minimal malfunctions. The trigger pull, averaging around 5.5 pounds, provides a predictable break, though some may find it slightly spongy. Felt recoil is manageable but noticeably sharper due to the potent caliber and lighter frame, which could challenge newer shooters. On the downside, maintenance requires attention to detail, as certain components can wear faster under heavy use. Additionally, sourcing specific replacement parts may pose occasional difficulties, potentially frustrating owners in remote areas.
