Analysis

This 9mm semi-automatic pistol offers a solid option for shooters seeking a dependable duty or personal defense firearm. Its accuracy is commendable, delivering consistent performance at typical engagement distances, while the ergonomic design provides a comfortable grip for most hand sizes, aiding in control during extended sessions. Reliability is a key asset, with the pistol functioning well under varied conditions when properly maintained. However, maintenance can be somewhat demanding, as disassembly and cleaning require attention to detail. Availability of replacement parts may also pose challenges, potentially frustrating owners needing repairs. The trigger pull is on the heavier side, which might not suit all users, particularly those preferring a lighter break for precision shooting. Felt recoil is moderate, manageable for most, though shooters sensitive to kick may notice it during rapid fire. Overall, it’s a practical choice with some considerations for long-term ownership.

I've owned a few 3rd gen S&W autos on and off over the years. Never took the time to appreciate them. After I found an excellent condition 5906 a few years ago I found a 915. What a great gun! Extremely accurate and reliable it has never failed to feed good and good quality ammo to include hollow points, steel or aluminum cased. Beware, 3rd gens Smiths are addictive.

The 915 was not part of Smith’s Value Line, it has no plastic parts except for the grips. It is a 5904 with a milling cut left off the receiver and a matte-finish slide…no ambi-safety and flat backstrap. I have two of them, and as the previous reviewer stated that are totally reliable. I can cycle empty cases through mine. Wonderful, underrated pistol.

I've owned one since the eighties, and it's one of the most reliable handguns I have. I've been shooting my 915 for 30+ years, and have never had any kind of failure. I like SA/DA metal frame guns, and find the 915 to be one of the best. My other DA/SA guns are 2 Berettas (92FS & 85F) and a Lionheart LH9C (all great), but I have to say that the 915 is the best shooter! Very accurate and soft-shooting, smooth DA trigger pull and light SA pull; just a joy at the range. It's a bit big for me to carry (LH9C for EDC), but it's always on the nightstand.
