Analysis

American Derringer introduced the Model 7 Lightweight in the late 1980s as an alloy-frame-and-barrel Model 1: same top-break barrels, automatic barrel selection, and hammer-block safety that drops off when the hammer is cocked. Catalogs listed it as a backup gun and priced the .44 S&W Spl row above the milder chamberings. The factory Lightweight page also listed .32 Mag / .32 S&W Long and the two rimfires; those sit on the separate Ultra Lightweight model on the site. Output was small. The .44 S&W Spl run ended first. Used examples are scarce next to a stainless Model 1 and trade on frame condition as much as caliber.
