Analysis

American Derringer listed the Model 8 as a competition derringer on the Model 1 lockwork: top-break barrels, automatic barrel selection, and a hammer-block safety that drops off when the hammer is cocked. The only site chambering is .45/.410 Cal. Factory copy sold the extra barrel length as a longer sight line and more velocity for deliberate fire, and an Adco red-dot was shown on the barrel block in period catalog photos. An engraved Model 8 was a catalog option. Output was small. Used examples are scarce and usually sell a step above a Model 6 when the grips and finish are original.
