About the Gun

The FX Fatboy Lightweight is a compact wide-body 1911-style single-action pistol with an alloy frame, a steel slide, a short flared bull barrel, and thin polymer grip panels. It uses Novak-style low-profile sights, an ambidextrous thumb safety, a beavertail grip safety, and a skeletonized trigger, and it feeds from double-stack magazines.

Production ran from 2013 through 2014.

Market value

MSRP at production was around $700. Current used market value for examples in good to very good condition ranges $350–$450.

Analysis

American Tactical introduced the FX Fatboy Lightweight in late 2012 as the alloy-frame companion to the earlier all-steel Fatboy. Both were compact double-stack .45 Auto 1911s from Shooters Arms in the Philippines, built around a short slide and a Para-pattern wide magazine well. The Lightweight added an alloy frame, an ambidextrous thumb safety, and separate thin grip panels in place of the first Fatboy’s integral grips. Blue Book treats the Fatboy line as mid-2010 through 2014 and notes the lightweight gun became the standard configuration in 2013. Regular production ended with the rest of that Philippine FX compact run. Used examples are uncommon and trade as short-run wide-body Officers.
