About the Gun

The FX Fatboy is a compact wide-body 1911-style single-action pistol with an all-steel frame and slide, a short flared bull barrel, and integral serrated grips. It uses Novak-style low-profile sights, a single-side thumb safety, a beavertail grip safety, and a skeletonized trigger, and it feeds from double-stack magazines.

Production ran from 2010 through 2012.

Market value

MSRP at production was around $700. Current used market value for examples in good to very good condition ranges $350–$450.

Analysis

American Tactical introduced the FX Fatboy around 2010 as the double-stack compact in the Philippine FX 1911 line from Shooters Arms. The short slide sat on a Para-pattern wide magazine well so a 12-round .45 Auto magazine would flush in an Officer-length gun. Early guns used grips molded into the frame and a single-side thumb safety. The alloy Fatboy Lightweight replaced that package in 2013 with separate thin panels and an ambidextrous safety. Steel Fatboy production ended when the Lightweight became the catalog gun. Used examples are uncommon and trade as short-run wide-body Officers.
