About the Gun

The 357 Police is a medium-to-large S&W-pattern DA/SA service revolver with a six-shot swing-out cylinder, a transfer bar safety, and fixed sights. Standard guns are blued steel with square checkered wood grips. The front sight is low and snag-free.

Analysis

Astra introduced the Police in 1980 as the duty version of its Magnum-frame revolver. The changes from the adjustable-sight 357 were a stronger hammer, a smoother front sight, and a fixed rear notch. It was sold for police and military use and could be set up for .357 Mag, .38 Spl, or a spare 9 mm cylinder. Production was short. Used guns trade as Spanish service Magnums; parts are limited.
