About the Gun

Compact +P rated .45 Auto pistol with a unique loading system that allows for a longer barrel length. Cartridges are pulled from the magazine backwards as the slide retracts, allowing the barrel to extend rearward over the magazine. The gun also employs the rather unique rotating barrel method of recoil management, only found in a few semi-automatic pistols.

Production

Production of this firearm under the Onyx model designation began in 2011 and continued until 2016, when manufacturing ceased due to the company's acquisition and subsequent rebranding. Limited units were produced during this period, making it a rare collectible.

Analysis

This .45 Auto pistol offers a compelling option for shooters seeking a unique design in a semi-automatic handgun. Its accuracy is noteworthy, delivering consistent performance at moderate ranges, thanks to a well-engineered barrel and sight system. Ergonomically, the grip design accommodates a wide range of hand sizes, providing a secure hold during extended sessions. Reliability is a strong point, with the firearm functioning smoothly under various conditions, even with diverse ammunition types. However, maintenance can be somewhat complex due to its unconventional construction, requiring more time and care than standard models. Availability of replacement parts may also pose a challenge for some owners. The trigger pull is crisp, averaging around 5 pounds, which aids in precision shooting. Felt recoil is manageable for most users, though those sensitive to .45 Auto’s inherent kick might notice it more during rapid fire. Overall, it’s a solid choice with distinct considerations.
