Analysis

This .380 Auto pistol offers a compelling package for shooters seeking a compact, reliable firearm for personal defense or range use. Its accuracy is commendable, delivering consistent groupings at moderate distances, thanks to a well-designed barrel and sight system. Ergonomically, the grip fits comfortably in most hands, promoting a secure hold during extended sessions. Reliability is a strong point, with the pistol cycling smoothly through various ammunition types under standard conditions. The trigger pull is crisp, averaging around 5 pounds, which aids in precise shot placement. Felt recoil is mild, making it manageable for shooters of varying experience levels. On the downside, maintenance can be somewhat intricate, requiring attention to detail during disassembly. Parts availability may pose challenges for some users, potentially delaying repairs. Additionally, those with larger hands might find the compact frame slightly cramped, affecting long-term comfort.

Another JMB-inspired option

Browning’s 85 percent scale 1911 .380ACP is surprisingly fun to shoot. The grip is sufficient for my size Large hands, and the G10 panels (Pro Full size version) provide excellent purchase. The white 3-dot sights work very well, and the gun shoots to POI right out of the box. The 4.25” barrel provides a good sight radius and helps deliver the round’s potential. While not as concealable as Ruger’s LCP, the shooting comfort nod definitely goes to the 1911-380. Pairs well with my full size 1911 45ACP during range sessions.
