About the Gun

The Browning Hi-Power is a single-action, 9 mm semi-automatic handgun based on a design by American firearms inventor John Browning, and later improved by Dieudonné Saive at Fabrique Nationale (FN) of Herstal, Belgium. The pistol has undergone continuous refinement by FN since its introduction in 1935. Genuine Browning Hi-Power pistols are still manufactured by FN Herstal of Belgium and Portugal.

About the Cartridge

This cartridge was developed as a joint venture between Winchester and Smith & Wesson. It was an effort to to create a cartridge with the same power as the 10mm Norma round that the FBI had just started using, but in a shorter case. The shorter cartridge would facilitate accuracy and allow use of a smaller, more comfortable grip frame. The .40 S&W has become the cartridge of choice for many law enforcement agencies in the United States.

Awesome .40 S&W
By Byrdnest on 31 Jan 2019
When I bought my Browning Hi-Power i was actually looking for a 1911. I looked at both the .9 mm and the .40 S&W and I am glad i chose the .40 S&W. This pistol just feels right in the hand. The performance is outstanding.
