About the Gun

Charter revolvers are 100% US made. They utilize a one-piece frame design and a completely blocked hammer system which cannot fire unless the trigger is held in full rear position. Cylinder lock up is in three places instead of two: cylinder stop and ejector rod collar for additional safety, strength and cylinder-to-barrel lock up.

Analysis

This compact .38 Special revolver offers a lightweight design, making it a practical choice for concealed carry or personal defense. Its accuracy is commendable for short-range engagements, typically within 15 yards, and the ergonomics cater well to smaller hands with a comfortable grip that aids in control. Reliability is a strong point, as it functions consistently with standard ammunition, showing minimal failures in testing. The trigger pull is smooth in double-action mode, though it requires a firm 10-12 pounds of pressure, which may challenge some users. Felt recoil is moderate, manageable for most shooters, but it can be sharp with hotter loads. On the downside, maintenance can be cumbersome due to tight tolerances, requiring meticulous cleaning. Additionally, sourcing replacement parts may pose difficulties, and the design might not suit users with larger hands, potentially affecting comfort during extended use.
