Analysis

This .38 Special revolver from a well-known manufacturer offers a compact design tailored for concealed carry and personal defense. Its accuracy is commendable, delivering consistent performance at typical self-defense ranges, while the ergonomics provide a comfortable grip for most hand sizes, aiding in control during firing. Reliability is a strong suit, with a proven track record of functioning under varied conditions. The trigger pull is smooth in double-action mode, though it requires a firm press, which may challenge newer shooters. Felt recoil is moderate, manageable for most users with proper technique, though extended sessions might cause fatigue due to the lightweight frame. On the downside, maintenance can be intricate, requiring attention to detail, and sourcing replacement parts may pose difficulties due to limited availability. Additionally, the smaller frame might not suit shooters with larger hands, potentially affecting comfort over time.

After 1966 and the shortened butt frames, the Agent was identical to the Cobra other than the name on the barrel. The frame is aluminum. All other components—barrel, cylinder, crane, ejector, lock work, hammer, trigger—are steel. An excellent, lightweight revolver. Colt approved the later versions for a limited amount of +P.
