About the Gun

The Colt Anaconda is a large-frame double-action revolver offered in both .44 Magnum and .45 Colt chamberings, with barrel length options that include short, medium, and long configurations across two manufacturing generations. The design incorporates a ventilated-rib barrel with full-length underlug, stainless-steel construction in the original run, and expanded finish choices in current production. Both generations share core revolver architecture while reflecting different periods of Colt manufacturing.

Production

Production began in 2021 and is currently ongoing.

Analysis

The original-production Anacondas were built on a dedicated heavy MM frame with lockwork derived from earlier Colt large-frame designs. Production of standard models largely ended by the late 1990s, with limited Custom Shop examples continuing until approximately 2003. The second-generation models, introduced in 2021, use a strengthened frame and revised lockwork based on the updated Python platform, resulting in differences in trigger feel and overall durability under sustained magnum use. Both generations employ the same fundamental barrel construction with full underlug and ventilated rib. In the collector market, original examples have seen appreciation tied to finite production quantities and the cessation of standard manufacturing. Current-production versions remain in active manufacture with additional barrel-length and finish options added over time. The design evolution between the two generations centers on frame strength and lockwork refinements while preserving the overall large-frame magnum revolver layout.
