About the Gun

The HP Safety Fast Shooting (SFS) pistol is a development of the famous Hi-Power pistol. The pistol's novel mechanism allows the user to chamber a round and fire it in single-action mode rather than the more deliberate double-action trigger pull. When loaded, the user pushes the hammer forwards automatically activating three safeties which block the trigger, lock the slide and maintain the hammer in the forward 'fast shooting' position. All safeties are deactivated at the same time and the hammer is automatically recocked when the ambidextrous ergonomic safety lever is lowered. The trigger remains light and precise, while the first shot is immediate.

Production

Production of this firearm began in 2003 and continued until around 2010. It was manufactured during a period when demand for reliable, high-performance pistols surged, reflecting advancements in design tailored for precision and safety.

Analysis

This 9mm semi-automatic pistol offers a compelling package for shooters seeking a reliable duty or personal defense firearm. Its accuracy is commendable, with tight groupings at moderate ranges, thanks to a well-designed barrel and sight system. The ergonomics are thoughtfully executed, providing a comfortable grip for a wide range of hand sizes, which enhances control during extended shooting sessions. Reliability is a strong suit, as it consistently performs under various conditions with minimal malfunctions when properly maintained. However, maintenance can be somewhat cumbersome, requiring more effort than some comparable models due to its intricate design. Parts availability may also pose a challenge in certain regions, potentially delaying repairs. The trigger pull is crisp, averaging around 5 pounds in single action, though some users might find it slightly heavy in double action. Felt recoil is moderate, manageable for most shooters with proper technique.
