About the Gun

Fifth-generation iteration of this full-size 9 mm pistol features a polymer frame without finger grooves, interchangeable backstraps for grip customization, and a modestly flared magazine well. It includes an ambidextrous slide stop lever along with an nDLC finish on the slide. The design utilizes the Glock Marksman Barrel with conventional rifling and a revised crown profile. The overall configuration maintains the established short-recoil, locked-breech operating system with a striker-fired trigger mechanism and standard fixed sights.

Analysis

This model represented Glock’s primary response to user feedback requesting improved ergonomics without fundamentally altering the platform’s core dimensions or reliability characteristics. The addition of the backstrap system and dual-spring setup addressed common complaints about grip fit and recoil impulse noted in earlier generations, though some early production units required minor factory updates to ejector and spring components to resolve occasional stovepipe or failure-to-eject issues with certain hollow-point loads. In practice, the pistol demonstrated consistent performance in law enforcement and defensive applications, contributing to its widespread adoption before the manufacturer transitioned focus toward subsequent generations. Secondary market availability remains high due to large numbers of trade-ins and department upgrades, resulting in steady pricing for serviceable examples.

Differences between the first batch of Glock 17 Ge
By MrH9mm on 08 Sep 2021
It should be noted that the Glock 17 Gen 5 first batch of releases had no front slide serrations and has a half-moon cut out on the front grip. The front slide serrations were added after initial consumer complaints about the lack of front serrations as well as the removal of the half-moon cut out due to complaints. I believe in time this first batch of Glock Gen 5's will become collectable, due to the changes in the early stages of the Gen 5 release.
