About the Gun

One of the first successful polymer framed designs, Glock handguns are common sidearms among law enforcement agencies and military organizations around the world. Although a striker-fired pistol, the Glock employs a single-action (SA) trigger, meaning that the trigger does not cock the gun, but only releases the striker when pulled. Cocking of the striker is performed by the retracting slide. Glock pistols have no manual safeties. The trigger is the only operating element. All three internal pistol safeties are deactivated when the unique single-action trigger is pulled, and automatically activated when it is released. For more information on the Glock design, please refer to the Glock pistol animation in the Basics section.

Analysis

This .40 S&W pistol offers a compelling package for shooters seeking a full-size firearm with competition and duty potential. Its accuracy is noteworthy, particularly at extended ranges, thanks to a longer barrel and sight radius that aid in precision shooting. The ergonomic design ensures a comfortable grip for most hand sizes, enhancing control during rapid fire. Reliability is a key asset, with consistent performance even under demanding conditions. However, maintenance can be somewhat intricate, requiring attention to detail for proper care. Availability of certain replacement parts may pose challenges for some users, potentially delaying repairs. The trigger pull is crisp, averaging around 5.5 pounds, which suits both novice and experienced shooters. Felt recoil is manageable, though it may feel sharp to those unaccustomed to the .40 caliber’s snap, necessitating practice for optimal handling. Overall, it’s a solid choice with considerations for long-term upkeep.
