About the Gun

Subcompact, polymer-framed pistol chambered in 9mm, designed for concealed carry and backup use with a reduced grip and slide length relative to the compact Glock 19 while retaining high magazine capacity. It uses a locked-breech, short-recoil operating system with a polygonal rifled barrel and double-stack magazines holding 10 rounds standard (with compatibility for higher-capacity Glock 19 magazines). This is a Gen3 configuration, with finger grooves along the front strap, thumb rests on the frame sides, and the revised Gen3 grip texture pattern. But, it lacks an accessory rail on the dust cover (no practical use due to the short frame).

Production

Production began in 1995 and continued through the early 2010s.

Analysis

The Glock 26 has shown reliable durability across law enforcement backup roles, civilian concealed carry, and occasional off-duty applications worldwide. Major components maintain broad compatibility with Gen3 Glock 19 parts, including slides, barrels, recoil springs, and most internals, enabling extensive interchangeability and aftermarket support with only minor differences in grip feel from the subcompact proportions. The polygonal rifling supports reliable function with a variety of 9mm ammunition types and contributes to consistent practical accuracy at typical defensive distances. Early production examples from the mid-1990s feature smoother finger grooves without the later added stippling or texture inside them, but these transitional pieces otherwise align visually and functionally with standard Gen3 G26s. The platform's compact dimensions and 10-round standard capacity (expandable via extended magazines) provide a balance of concealability and firepower, with the finger grooves and thumb rests offering ergonomic adjustments suited to the smaller grip. Secondary market preferences depend primarily on condition, originality, remaining finish, and individual grip fit rather than any inherent differences in mechanical performance or durability relative to other Gen3 9mm models.
