About the Gun

One of the first successful polymer framed designs, Glock handguns are common sidearms among law enforcement agencies and military organizations around the world. Although a striker-fired pistol, the Glock employs a single-action (SA) trigger, meaning that the trigger does not cock the gun, but only releases the striker when pulled. Cocking of the striker is performed by the retracting slide. Glock pistols have no manual safeties. The trigger is the only operating element. All three internal pistol safeties are deactivated when the unique single-action trigger is pulled, and automatically activated when it is released. For more information on the Glock design, please refer to the Glock pistol animation in the Basics section.

Analysis

This compact .40 S&W pistol is a notable option for concealed carry and personal defense, offering a balance of power and portability. Its accuracy is commendable for a subcompact design, delivering consistent performance at typical engagement distances. The ergonomics are well-suited for most hand sizes, with a grip that facilitates a secure hold despite the smaller frame. Reliability is a key asset, as it functions dependably across various conditions with proper care. However, the trigger pull, averaging around 5.5 pounds, may feel somewhat heavy for some users, potentially affecting precision during rapid fire. Felt recoil is noticeable due to the potent caliber in a lightweight platform, which could be challenging for newer shooters. On the downside, maintenance requires attention to detail, and sourcing certain replacement parts can occasionally be inconvenient, particularly for less common components. Overall, it’s a solid choice with considerations for user experience.
