About the Gun

Configured as the smaller counterpart to the compact Glock 23 to prioritize concealability and backup utility while retaining double-stack capacity. It uses a locked-breech, short-recoil operating system with a polygonal rifled barrel and double-stack magazines holding 9 rounds standard (with compatibility for higher-capacity Glock 22/23 magazines). This is a Gen3 configuration, with finger grooves along the front strap, thumb rests on the frame sides, and the revised Gen3 grip texture pattern. But, it lacks an accessory rail on the dust cover (no practical use due to the short frame).

Production

Production began in 1995 and continued through the early 2010s.

Analysis

The Glock 27 shares consistent Gen3 mechanics and has shown reliable durability across law enforcement backup roles, civilian concealed carry, and occasional off-duty applications worldwide. Major components maintain broad compatibility with Gen3 Glock 23 parts, including slides, barrels, recoil springs, and most internals, enabling extensive interchangeability and aftermarket support with only minor differences in grip feel from the subcompact proportions. The polygonal rifling supports reliable function with a variety of .40 S&W ammunition types and contributes to consistent practical accuracy at typical defensive distances. Early production examples from the mid-1990s feature smoother finger grooves without the later added stippling or texture inside them (often referred to as transitional or "Gen2.5" in enthusiast discussions), but these align visually and functionally with standard Gen3 G27s—no true Gen2-style configuration (lacking finger grooves entirely) exists for this model. The platform's compact dimensions and 9-round standard capacity (expandable via extended magazines) provide a balance of concealability and firepower, with the finger grooves and thumb rests offering ergonomic adjustments suited to the smaller grip.
