About the Gun

The Gen 4 series of Glock pistols were introduced in 2010. Like most new polymer framed pistols the Gen 4 series features interchangeable grip inserts. The Gen 4 series also incorporates a dual recoil spring assembly, a feature only in previous generations' compact models. Other features include a reversible magazine release, a Tenifer matte finish slide and new grip texture. Changes in the Gen 4 design are significant enough such that not all parts can be mixed and matched with previous Glock generations.

Analysis

This .40 S&W pistol offers a compelling package for competitive shooters and enthusiasts seeking a full-size duty firearm. Its accuracy is noteworthy, particularly for long-range engagements, thanks to a longer barrel that enhances sight radius and velocity. Ergonomically, the adjustable backstraps provide a customizable grip, accommodating a variety of hand sizes for improved control. Reliability is a key asset, with consistent performance under diverse conditions, making it a trusted choice for regular use. However, maintenance can be somewhat demanding, requiring diligent cleaning to prevent wear in high-stress components. Parts availability may pose challenges in certain regions, potentially delaying repairs. The trigger pull, averaging around 5.5 pounds, offers a crisp break but might feel heavy for some users. Felt recoil is manageable, though the .40 caliber’s snap can be noticeable during rapid fire, requiring practice for newer shooters to master.
