About the Gun

One of the first successful polymer framed designs, Glock handguns are common sidearms among law enforcement agencies and military organizations around the world. Although a striker-fired pistol, the Glock employs a single-action (SA) trigger, meaning that the trigger does not cock the gun, but only releases the striker when pulled. Cocking of the striker is performed by the retracting slide. Glock pistols have no manual safeties. The trigger is the only operating element. All three internal pistol safeties are deactivated when the unique single-action trigger is pulled, and automatically activated when it is released. For more information on the Glock design, please refer to the Glock pistol animation in the Basics section.

Analysis

This .40 S&W caliber pistol is a notable choice for competitive shooters and law enforcement personnel due to its exceptional accuracy and well-designed ergonomics. The longer barrel and sight radius contribute to precise shot placement, while the adjustable grip ensures a comfortable fit for various hand sizes. Reliability is a key asset, with consistent performance even under demanding conditions. The trigger pull, averaging around 5.5 pounds, offers a crisp break, aiding in controlled shooting. However, the felt recoil in this chambering can be sharp, potentially challenging for newer shooters or those sensitive to kick. On the downside, maintenance requires attention to detail, as certain components may wear faster under heavy use. Additionally, sourcing specific replacement parts can sometimes be an issue, depending on location. Overall, it’s a solid option for those prioritizing precision and dependability, provided they manage the recoil effectively.
