About the Gun

Developed as part of the International series for 25 meter standard pistol and NRA bullseye competition. It featured extensive machining—reportedly 665 operations—for precise fit and finish, with a burnished blued steel receiver and barrel. The design incorporated a single-stage trigger adjustable for pull weight and overtravel, walnut grips with an adjustable palm rest and thumb shelf for ergonomic customization, and a manual thumb safety on the frame. It included provisions under the barrel for optional weight attachments to fine-tune balance and recoil characteristics.

Analysis

The Model 208 served as the foundation for Hammerli's semi-automatic target pistol lineup, directly influencing the mechanical design and adjustability features seen in later models such as the 215 and SP20. Its consistent reliability with standard-velocity .22 LR ammunition and the availability of trigger and grip adjustments supported steady performance in 25 meter standard pistol and NRA bullseye disciplines. One documented example set the 25 meter standard pistol world record of 584 points in 1978, a score that remained unbeaten for over a decade. Although production ceased in the late 1980s and replacement parts have since become scarce, the pistol retains interest among collectors and competitive shooters for its role in the evolution of precision rimfire handguns during that era.
