About the Gun

Originally intended as a military pistol for the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF), the Barak was supposed to replace in Israeli service the older Jericho 941 pistols of domestic origins, as well as the popular Glock pistols. Although the future of the Barak as an IDF service pistol is currently uncertain, IWI decided to introduce this pistol to the international market.

Analysis

This 9mm pistol from a well-known Israeli manufacturer offers a solid blend of performance and design for both novice and experienced shooters. Its accuracy is noteworthy, delivering consistent groupings at typical defensive ranges, thanks to a well-engineered barrel and sight system. Ergonomically, the grip design accommodates a variety of hand sizes, enhancing control during rapid fire. Reliability is a key asset, with the firearm functioning smoothly across diverse conditions and ammunition types. However, maintenance can be somewhat cumbersome due to a complex disassembly process, which may frustrate less experienced users. Availability of replacement parts could also pose a challenge in certain regions. The trigger pull is crisp, averaging around 5 pounds, which aids precision, while the felt recoil is moderate, manageable for most shooters with proper technique. Overall, it’s a capable option for personal defense or range use, though with minor drawbacks to consider.
