About the Gun

The micro-compact Kimber Solo is a diversion from the manufacturer's 1911 style pistols. Like its bigger 1911 siblings the Solo sports a machined aluminum frame, a similar grip angle, side panels and magazine release, and an ambidextrous thumb safety. But, that's where the similarities end. The Solo employs a striker style firing system with a Glock-style single-action (SA) trigger. The slide and barrel cut from stainless steel. To aid in concealed carry the gun is given melt-down style rounded and blended edges.

Analysis

This 9mm compact pistol offers notable strengths for concealed carry and personal defense. Its accuracy is commendable, delivering tight groupings at typical self-defense ranges, thanks to a well-designed barrel and sight system. The ergonomics are thoughtfully crafted, with a grip that fits comfortably in most hands, promoting a secure hold during firing. Reliability is generally solid, performing consistently with a variety of ammunition types under standard conditions. The trigger pull is crisp, averaging around 7 pounds, which aids in maintaining control without excessive effort. Felt recoil is moderate for its class, manageable for most shooters with proper grip technique. On the downside, maintenance can be somewhat demanding, requiring meticulous care to prevent wear on smaller components. Parts availability may pose challenges, potentially delaying repairs. Additionally, shooters with larger hands might find the frame slightly cramped, impacting long-term comfort during extended range sessions.
