About the Gun

Each Kimber Ultra Carry has a lowered and flared ejection port with an extra bevel at the front to clear ejecting brass. The shortened machined 7075-T7 aluminum frame retains 7-round magazine capacity. The Ultra Carry slide has the longest cycle time of any small 1911 pistol, ensuring unequaled reliability. Bull barrel design keeps maximum weight forward, reducing muzzle lift and recoil. Kimber Ultra Carry pistols weigh just 25 ounces. Their short 3-inch barrels, compact grips and flat 1911 profiles make them easy to carry and conceal.

Analysis

This compact .40 S&W pistol offers a solid blend of performance and portability for concealed carry or personal defense. Its accuracy is commendable, delivering tight groupings at typical defensive ranges, thanks to a well-designed barrel and sight system. The ergonomics are thoughtfully crafted, with a grip that fits most hand sizes comfortably, promoting confident handling. Reliability is a strong point, as it consistently cycles a variety of ammunition without frequent malfunctions under proper care. However, maintenance can be somewhat demanding, requiring meticulous cleaning to prevent wear on critical components. Availability of replacement parts may also pose a challenge for some users, potentially leading to delays in repairs. The trigger pull is crisp, averaging around 4-5 pounds, which aids precision, though the felt recoil in this lighter frame can be sharp, especially during extended range sessions, potentially affecting shooter comfort.
