About the Gun

The Mauser M2 is a Mauser branded handgun which was offered in the United States by Sig Sauer. It is a self-loading double-action pistol offered in .45 ACP initially, and later in .40 S&W and .357 SIG. The Mauser M2 is dimensionally similar to the SIG P229 pistol, also manufactured by Sig Sauer. Unlike most SIGs, it utilizes a rotating barrel like a Beretta. It's also striker-fired, like a Glock pistol. SIG purchased the Mauser name for pistol manufacture in 1999, but this pistol is no longer supported by SIG nor Mauser Jagdwaffen GmbH. It hasn't been imported by SIG since 2004, and the Mauser Oberndorf plant where the M2 was manufactured has been closed.

Analysis

This firearm in 357 SIG caliber offers a compelling package for shooters seeking a balance of power and control. Its accuracy is noteworthy, delivering consistent groupings at moderate ranges, thanks to a well-designed barrel and sight system. The ergonomics are a strong point, with a grip that accommodates a variety of hand sizes, promoting a secure hold during extended sessions. Reliability is generally solid, with the pistol cycling effectively under diverse conditions. However, maintenance can be somewhat demanding, requiring meticulous care to prevent wear on critical components. Parts availability may also pose challenges, as sourcing replacements can be inconsistent. The trigger pull is crisp, averaging around 5.5 pounds, which aids precision but might feel stiff for some users. Felt recoil is manageable, though the sharp snap of the 357 SIG round could be fatiguing for less experienced shooters over prolonged use.
