About the Gun

The Ruger LCR is a double-action-only revolver that incorporates many features found in the SP101, GP100 and Super Redhawk revolvers, as well as several new features. The patent pending polymer fire control housing incorporates the same grip extension design as the SP101, GP100, and Super Redhawk revolvers. The craned cylinder assembly of the LCR locks into the aluminum upper frame in the rear of the cylinder and at the front via the ejector extension. The internal parts are installed through the top of the fire control housing or through the bottom in back of the aluminum upper frame. Therefore, no side plate is needed.

Analysis

This compact revolver chambered in .327 Federal Magnum offers a blend of performance and practicality for concealed carry and personal defense. Its lightweight frame enhances portability, while the ergonomic grip design ensures a secure hold, even during extended range sessions. Accuracy remains consistent at typical defensive distances, aided by a smooth double-action trigger pull that maintains control without excessive effort. Reliability is a key asset, with the mechanism functioning well under varied conditions. Felt recoil, though noticeable due to the potent cartridge and light build, is manageable for most shooters with proper technique. On the downside, maintenance can be somewhat involved, requiring attention to detail to prevent wear. Additionally, sourcing replacement parts or accessories may pose challenges due to limited availability. This firearm suits those seeking power in a small package, though it demands commitment to upkeep and familiarity with its unique characteristics.
