About the Gun

The Ruger LCR is a double-action-only revolver that incorporates many features found in the SP101, GP100 and Super Redhawk revolvers, as well as several new features. The patent pending polymer fire control housing incorporates the same grip extension design as the SP101, GP100, and Super Redhawk revolvers. The craned cylinder assembly of the LCR locks into the aluminum upper frame in the rear of the cylinder and at the front via the ejector extension. The internal parts are installed through the top of the fire control housing or through the bottom in back of the aluminum upper frame. Therefore, no side plate is needed.

Analysis

This lightweight revolver in .38 Special +P caliber offers a compelling package for concealed carry and personal defense. Its compact design and polymer frame contribute to a low weight, making it comfortable for all-day carry, while the ergonomic grip aids in control during firing. Accuracy is consistent at typical self-defense ranges, and reliability remains a strong point with proper care, even under demanding conditions. The trigger pull, while on the heavier side in double-action mode, is smooth and predictable, though some users may require practice to master it. Felt recoil is manageable but noticeable with +P loads, potentially challenging for newer shooters. On the downside, maintenance can be somewhat intricate due to the design, and sourcing replacement parts may pose difficulties. Overall, it’s a solid choice for those prioritizing portability, though it demands dedication to upkeep and familiarity with its handling characteristics.
