They also feature a smaller Ruger cushioned grip system with no exposed metal at the back strap for shooter comfort, the patented triple-locking cylinder mechanism that securely locks the cylinder into the frame at the front, rear, and bottom, and a stainless steel frame that has no weakening side plates. Ruger SP101 revolvers come in spurred and spurless hammer versions and take down easily with no special tools.

Analysis

This compact revolver chambered in a versatile cartridge offers notable precision for its size, delivering consistent accuracy at moderate ranges, ideal for both defensive and recreational use. Its ergonomic design provides a comfortable grip, aiding in control during extended shooting sessions. Reliability is a key asset, with a robust build that handles regular use without frequent malfunctions. The trigger pull is smooth in double-action mode, though it requires a firm hand, measuring around 10-12 pounds, which might challenge newer shooters. Felt recoil is manageable, even with the potent caliber, thanks to the solid frame and grip design. On the downside, maintenance can be somewhat demanding due to the intricate mechanism, requiring diligent cleaning to prevent wear. Additionally, sourcing replacement parts may pose a challenge, as availability is limited compared to more common calibers, potentially frustrating owners needing repairs.
