This is SIG's own version of Browning's classic 1911 platform manufactured in Exeter, New Hampshire. Originally only produced with an integral accessory rail (as the term GSR implied), both standard and rail models are now offered.

Analysis

This .45 Auto pistol from a well-known manufacturer offers a solid blend of performance and design for enthusiasts and general shooters alike. Its accuracy is noteworthy, delivering consistent groupings at typical defensive ranges, thanks to a well-engineered barrel and sight system. Ergonomically, the grip provides a secure hold, accommodating various hand sizes with ease, while the controls are intuitively placed for quick operation. Reliability is a strong point, with the firearm cycling smoothly through a variety of ammunition types under standard conditions. However, maintenance can be somewhat demanding, requiring meticulous care to preserve the finish and internal components. Parts availability may also pose a challenge for some users, depending on location. The trigger pull is crisp, averaging around 5 pounds, which aids precision, though the felt recoil in this caliber can be sharp, potentially affecting newer shooters during extended sessions.
