About the Gun

The P220 Carry consists of three variants that use a shortened barrel and slide mounted on the full-size P220 frame, allowing the use of standard 8-round magazines while reducing overall length. These models retain the alloy frame, DA/SA trigger with decocker, and locked-breech short-recoil operation of the base P220 platform but offer a slightly more compact profile for carry or duty use. All standard Carry configurations include an accessory rail.

Analysis

The P220 Carry variants addressed demand for a .45 Auto pistol that combined the full-size grip and magazine capacity of the standard P220 with a shorter slide for improved concealability or faster draw, while preserving the platform's reputation for accuracy and reliability. The design choice to retain the full frame meant weight remained near 30 ounces (empty magazine), providing recoil control similar to the full-size model but with a 0.5-inch reduction in overall length that some users found more comfortable for everyday carry. These models appeared as SIG Sauer expanded its P220 lineup in the 2000s to compete in the transitional period when law enforcement and civilian shooters sought metal-frame DA/SA options before the widespread shift to polymer striker-fired designs. The Nitron finish dominated for durability, the two-tone appealed to aesthetic preferences, and the Equinox added visual distinction through its slide treatment and controls. Production of standard Carry configurations ended as SIG prioritized the P320 series and retained only select Legion variants of the P220 platform.

Fantastic Must Have

This handgun has plenty of power, lightweight, reliable, safe with the DA/SA and hammer notch. Very ergonomic with decocker and slide release right where you want them. And overall it's a beautiful looking gun. Only downside is the 8+1 capacity, but the single stack keeps it thin and light. Plus you don't need many hits with .45 to drop an assailant.
