Analysis

The P220 Combat variants appeared in the late 2000s as SIG Sauer responded to tactical and duty requirements with features such as the FDE frame, phosphate-treated components for durability in adverse conditions, and the option for a threaded barrel on the TB model to accommodate suppressors. The design retained the platform's short-recoil locked-breech operation and full-size grip for 8+1 capacity while adding the accessory rail and night sights for mounting lights or lasers. The non-TB version maintained the standard 7.7-inch overall length, whereas the TB added approximately 0.5 inches for threading without significantly altering balance for most users. These models saw limited production as part of the broader P220 lineup before SIG shifted emphasis to the P320 series and retained only select Legion configurations of the P220.
