Analysis

The P220 SAO variants provided an option for shooters who preferred a consistent single-action trigger pull and the presence of a manual thumb safety while retaining the standard locked-breech short-recoil operating system and handling characteristics of the base P220 platform. These models appeared during the period when SIG Sauer offered multiple trigger configurations on the P220 to address different preferences, prior to greater emphasis on the Elite package upgrades and Legion series. The black Nitron finish focused on durability and low maintenance, while the two-tone version offered a contrasting appearance with its natural stainless slide. They represent one branch of the platform's trigger variations without the beavertail, front strap checkering, or front slide serrations found on Elite models.
