About the Gun

The P220 Sport is a competition-oriented model featuring a heavy 5-inch match-grade barrel with an integrated stainless steel compensator. It uses full stainless steel slide and frame construction along with Hogue black rubber grips. It was produced with adjustable target sights.

MSRP at production was around $1,500. Current used market value for examples in good to very good condition ranges $1,000–$1,400.

Analysis

The P220 Sport was developed as a specialized target and competition variant that added a compensator and heavier barrel assembly to reduce muzzle flip and improve rapid-fire accuracy in .45 Auto. The full stainless steel construction significantly increased weight for better stability during aimed fire compared with standard alloy-frame P220 models. These pistols were produced in very limited numbers as part of SIG Sauer’s Mastershop custom offerings. The design represented an early attempt to offer an enhanced competition version of the P220 platform before the later introduction of Elite and Match Elite long-slide models.
