About the Gun

The P227 maintains the same size and overall layout of the P226 and is made with the E2-type enhancements that were first introduced to the P226 in 2010, such as the one-piece modular grip. This is SIG's first double-stack 45ACP pistol, and it is available in full-size and carry lengths which fit most holsters designed for the P220 and P226. Other features include a checkered front strap and trigger guard, stainless steel barrel, Siglite night sights and lower Picatinny rail. The SAS variant features an SRT trigger action, anti-snag treatment on the slide and frame and no rail.

Analysis

This .45 Auto carry pistol offers a compelling package for those seeking a reliable concealed carry option. Its accuracy is noteworthy, delivering consistent groupings at typical defensive ranges, thanks to a well-designed barrel and sight system. The ergonomics are a strong point, with a grip that fits most hand sizes comfortably, aiding in control during rapid fire. Reliability is solid, functioning well across various ammunition types with minimal malfunctions in testing. However, maintenance can be somewhat cumbersome, requiring more effort to disassemble and clean compared to simpler designs. Parts availability may also pose a challenge, as some components are less common in the aftermarket. The trigger pull is crisp, averaging around 5 pounds in single-action mode, though some users might find the double-action pull heavier than preferred. Felt recoil is manageable for a .45, though it can feel sharp without proper grip technique.
