About the Gun

The modern Sig Sauer pistol story began with the P220. Initially offered in several centerfire calibers in 1976, all but the .45 ACP chambering were eventually dropped. The .45 ACP P220 went on to become recognized as one of 'the most accurate 45s right out of the box.' Since that time the P220 has earned an enviable record in hot spots around the world. Today the P220 features a stainless steel slide machined from bar stock and coated with a durable, wear-resistant Nitron finish or natural stainless finish, light-weight alloy frame with integral accessory rail, and the Sig Sauer four-point safety system of decocking lever, patented automatic firing pin safety block, safety intercept notch, and trigger bar disconnector.

Analysis

This .45 Auto pistol from a renowned manufacturer offers a solid combination of precision and ergonomic design. Its accuracy is commendable, delivering consistent groupings at moderate ranges, making it a reliable choice for both defensive and target shooting applications. The grip design accommodates a variety of hand sizes, enhancing control during extended sessions. Reliability is a key asset, with the firearm performing well under diverse conditions, even with minimal maintenance. However, upkeep can be somewhat demanding, as certain components require regular attention to ensure optimal function. Availability of replacement parts may pose a challenge for some users, potentially leading to delays in repairs. The trigger pull is smooth, with a predictable break, though it may feel slightly heavy for those accustomed to lighter mechanisms. Felt recoil is manageable, though pronounced, as expected in this caliber, requiring proper grip technique for consistent follow-up shots.
