About the Gun

Built on the patented modular steel frame with polymer grip, the Eagle delivers the traditional features of a 1911 and allows the added benefit of high capacity magazines. The frame design preserves the original 1911 angle of the grip in relation to the slide. The essential design element for high capacity, the polymer grip, allows for double stack magazines without over-sizing the circumference of the grip, which remains comparatively the same as the circumference of a 1911. The Eagle has a classic scalloped slide with front and rear cocking serrations, dovetail front sight and adjustable rear sight. The Eagle comes standard with features such as a stainless steel hi-ride grip safety and stainless steel ambi-thumb safety.

Analysis

This .40 S&W pistol from a well-regarded manufacturer offers a full-sized frame designed for competitive shooting and personal defense. Its accuracy is noteworthy, thanks to a precision-engineered 6-inch barrel that enhances sight radius and bullet stability, making it a solid choice for target shooters. The ergonomics are well thought out, with a grip that accommodates a variety of hand sizes, promoting a secure hold during extended sessions. Reliability is consistent under typical conditions, with a robust design that handles high round counts effectively. The trigger pull is crisp, averaging around 4.5 pounds, which aids in precise shot placement. However, felt recoil in this caliber can be sharp, potentially challenging for newer shooters. On the downside, maintenance requires attention due to tighter tolerances, and sourcing replacement parts may pose difficulties. Overall, it’s a capable option for experienced users seeking performance.
